Are you ready to step into the light and even the darkness with Marvel? The latest installment of the Marvel Cinematic Universe delves into teenage drama with Cloak & Dagger, premiering on Freeform (formerly ABC Family) in 2018.
As always, let’s start off with the trailer:
Cloak & Dagger is the first Marvel show specifically designed toward the teen demographic but from first glimpse, the show looks to appease even the most die-hard fans. Dagger does ballet! Cloak has a cape! On top of the Roxxon Corp building!
Yes, the same Roxxon mentioned in SHIELD, Agent Carter, Iron Man, Daredevil and Iron Fist.
This dynamic teen couple first debuted in the comics in Peter Parker, the Spectacular Spider-Man #64 and were created by Bill Mantlo and Ed Hannigan. Cloak (Tyrone “Ty” Johnson) and Dagger (Tandy Bowen) are right on par with other street level Marvel characters taking on the drug trade and invoking their own brand of vigilante justice.
Cloak’s powers involve being able to create a portal of sorts into the darkforce dimension and being able to transport using the portal through the dimension as well. This plays well into the supernatural elements which Marvel has set up in both Agents of SHIELD and Doctor Strange. Dagger’s powers include the ability to create “light daggers” to use them against foes or cure them of diseases.
Cloak also has an insatiable appetite for light which can only be fed by dispatching foes into the dark dimension or feeding off of Dagger’s light, creating a duo that seems destined to be together.
