This Week's Pairing:

"Rat Queens" Volume One "Sass and Sorcery"- Written by Kurtis J. Wiebe- Art by Roc Upchurch- Published by Image/Shadowline 2015

Dragon's Milk- American Double/ Imperial Stout -Bourbon Barrel Stout- 11% Alcohol by Volume (ABV)- New Holland Brewing Company, Michigan USA

Prepare yourself for an epic adventure for your mind and palate, you're about to enter the world of the Rat Queens, a world of magic, mayhem, quests, and violence, a veritable cornucopia of violence. Did I mention that there will be violence? Oh, and profanity, which one should expect because of the violence. That being said, New Holland's Dragon's Milk pairs so well with the comic because both are delicious treats for your brain and your taste buds. It'll have you exclaiming "holy $#!*" "This is %#$%@&* awesome!"

Our pairing begins with a comparison of bottle design to the story setting. Rat Queens takes place in a town called the Palisade it resembles something out of a Dungeon Master's imagination (Shout out to all D&D players still rolling D-20's) or a really well done renaissance faire. Think Game of Thrones minus the majesty. Dragon's Milk bottle design, from font to color scheme is something you'd expect to see in "ye olde tavern" after long weeks of questing; but that's just the surface of why these two pair so well together.

At first pour this dark elixir is smooth and opaque black to dark brown with a thick khaki colored head. The aroma is enticing, there are notes of bitter dark chocolate, vanilla, coconut, salted caramel, and light bourbon. The taste falls in line with the aroma when cold, but shows increased bourbon, chocolate, and vanilla as it warms. An amazing treat for the palate.

The Rat Queens are a pack of booze guzzling, death dealing battle maidens for hire and they're in the business of killing all of the gods' creatures for profit.

Meet Hannah the Rockabilly Mage...

Violet the Hipster Dwarven Fighter, Betty the Hippy Smidgen Thief, and Dee the Atheist Human Cleric...

Rat Queens is pure unadulterated magic sword wielding fun, and an amazing story about sisterhood and the bonds friendship.  When paired with New Holland's Dragon's Milk, it becomes a quest that rewards you with a delicious 11% ABV stout and a story that you'll want to share with your friends.

Until next week read and consume responsibly.
