Marvel Tidbits w/ Dustin

Marvel Tidbits w/ Dustin
By Dustin M. Best

Welcome to your weekly influx of Marvel Tidbits on this very special occasion, Father's Day. Being a father myself, and no...not to my DC co-hort Dylan, I take great pride in striving to be a positive and extraordinary role model for my 2 wonderful sons. While my youngest may have a preference for the likes of Batman and DC, that doesn't stop me from reading my fair share of Marvel to him on a nightly basis.

Point is, be a father in your kids life, it's the most important privilege that you will ever receive in your life....and pick up a comic and read to them! Right Luke?

Slight Movie Work

In Marvel movie news, it looks as if Deadpool 2 is just getting underway with filming according to Ryan Reynolds on Twitter. In the image shown above Mr. Pool is just awaiting someone to arrive at the Xavier School...still...waiting. It also appears that Josh Brolin is getting his full Goonies work-out in for his role of Cable. Which may or may not be the first tease of Dazzler.

In some rather confusing movie news, or just Sony news, Spider-Man: Homecoming Producer Amy Pascal stated that Venom is indeed part of the MCU. This contradicts, to a certain extent, what Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige had stated. Feige recently divulged that "For now, there is no plan for Venom in the MCU.." and that "It's a Sony project.".

The solo Venom flick is tentatively scheduled for an October 2018 release date. I for one would be Dazzled if Amy's take is true and that Venom will be a part of the larger MCU moving forward. Please make my street dreams comes true Marvel...

Avengers B.C.?

marvel legacy

Have you often pondered what the Avengers would look like in the year 1,000,000 B.C.? (No - Dylan the DC Guy) As have I. Come September, this year, Marvel brings forth a 50 page one shot detailing the Avengers at the very start of time. The team being put together comprises several elders and lore concepts of what we know now about the Marvel Universe. Included on this team are Odin, Agamotto (not just the Eye!), Star Brand, Phoenix, Ghost Rider, Black Panther and Iron Fist. A ton of lore packed into one elder Avenger team!

“Marvel Legacy #1 will present all fans – new readers and current readers – the very best jumping on point in the history of comics,” Marvel Editor-in-Chief Axel Alonso added. “What Jason and Esad have crafted is more grand and more gargantuan than anything we have ever seen before and introduces concepts and characters the Marvel Universe has never encountered. Fans are going to witness an all-new look at the Marvel Universe starting at one of the earliest moments in time carried all the way into present day. Not only will this be the catalyst for Marvel evolving and moving forward, but expect it to be the spark that will ignite the industry as a whole.”

Comic of the Week

Just in case it's creeping up on you, Netflix's Defenders series debuts August 18th, 2017. Before Danny, Matt, Luke and Jessica hit your chill zone...I highly recommend getting into the new Brian Michael Bendis "The Defenders" series. The first issue just released and dives directly into New York City and introduces us to all four Defenders while also setting up the series' first antagonist...whom just happens to have a Netflix history and a deep connection with Luke Cage. The story is very well set-up so if you have yet to pick up a comic about the members, this is a very easy place to start. Get to your local Uncanny! and subscribe to this series!

Song of the Week

While Summer provides plenty of sunshine and daylight to spend outside in, there are those rainy evenings where you want to just kick back and binge on some TV. This provides a great opportunity to catch up on series you may have missed, like Legion! The little used X-Men character with multiple personalities is a trippy voyage to feast your eyes on and makes you want to pay attention throughout the entire series.

One of the most memorable sequences occurred when Aubrey Plaza's character "Lenny" broke into a fantastical dance sequence to a re-mastered Nina Simone's "Feeling Good". Out of context, I know you may be very confused...if you are, watch the show, you will not be disappointed! The 8 episode Season 1 debuted on FX in February, 2017 and the whole series is available on the FX app.

That will do it for anther edition in the Marvelous world of Marvel Tidbits w/ Dustin!
