This Week's Pairing:

"Saga" Volume One- Written by Brian K. Vaughn- Art by Fiona Staples- Published by Image Comics 2015

Golden Monkey- Belgian Style Tripel - 9.5% Alcohol By Volume (ABV)- Victory Brewing Company, Downingtown PA USA

I have to tell you, this pairing was an absolute pleasure to do. Victory's Golden Monkey and "Saga" are two of my favorite things, and to have the opportunity to pair them together, was an honor to say the least.

Imagine the best science fiction you've ever read is a bullet train traveling down the track at 300 mph and headed in the opposite direction on the same track at equal speed, is another bullet train that represents the best fantasy you've ever read. At the point of collision, the moment you think you're about to witness a monumental train wreck, the two trains meld together and form a rocket ship that takes you to a wondrous place, beyond anything you could ever imagine; that is Brian K. Vaughn and Fiona Staples' "Saga."

Victory Brewing Company's Golden Monkey is the perfect pairing partner for "Saga", like the comic it's in a class all by itself, from first pour to final sip Golden Monkey transports the imbiber to a place in the cosmos that is reserved for the best things that life has to offer. Its flavor and solid 9.5% ABV is second to none and has made it a benchmark in the world of craft brewing.

At first pour you are greeted with a beautiful clear orange and gold color that is Golden Monkey's namesake, the head is full and white, then dissipates to a nice lace. The aroma is intoxicating with hints of spices, orange, honey and tangy wheat. The taste is full-bodied with a sweet spiced-citrus flavor and ginger. The warmth that envelops you, after about half a glass, is a signature Golden Monkey feeling. I remember introducing Golden Monkey to a friend of mine from Tel-Aviv (Kafir) he described that feeling as "World peace in a bottle" I tend to agree.

SAGA is the sweeping tale of one young family fighting to find their place in the universe.  When two soldiers from opposite sides of a never-ending galactic war fall in love, they risk everything to bring a fragile new life into a dangerous existence.  Fantasy and science fiction are wed like never before in a sexy, subversive drama for adults.  The Onion A.V. Club calls Saga "the emotional epic Hollywood wishes it could make."

There are not enough words in the English language or any language for that matter, to describe how amazing these two things are. You honestly have to experience them for yourself. If you find yourself in a mood to treat yourself, imbibe "Saga" Volume One and Victory's Golden Monkey, you will not regret it.

Until next week read and drink responsibly
